Self-love and self-care are two important things we all need but might not get enough of on a regular basis. It can be hard to find time for yourself when you have a full schedule with work, family, and friends.
However, taking some extra steps into practicing self-love can help you be happier and live your best life possible. A good way to know if you’re practicing selfcare is to ask yourself a few questions daily. This way, if you’re in a rut or feeling down about something you won’t feel so lost.
Consider these questions a “checkup from the neck up”!
1. Are You Getting Enough Sleep?
Sleep plays an essential role in maintaining optimal mental and physical well-being. Getting enough sleep each night will allow your brain to function properly so that you don’t experience any negative side effects when trying to tackle difficult tasks during the day.
On top of that, getting an adequate amount of sleep regularly will ensure that your muscles recover quickly and improve your skin responses to illness. So next time you find yourself nodding off in front of the TV, remember: Sleeping is vital to living a happy lifestyle.
2. Do You Have a Routine?
In some cases, having a routine can actually help us stay healthier because it helps our bodies become accustomed to what they should do every day. Having a consistent bedtime, eating breakfast regularly, exercising, can help keep your body functioning optimally.
For example, having a skincare routine that you do every day (AM and PM) can help in keeping your face looking fresh and help you keep your skin younger-looking skin. If you want to start implementing more routines into your life, try starting by making one new healthy habit per week. If you stick with this plan, you could see amazing results within six months.
3. Are You Taking Some Time for Yourself?
Technology has become such a part of our lives that sometimes we forget to disconnect from it completely. It allows us to stay connected with people across the globe, but it doesn’t mean we should use it 24/7.
We can easily get lost in the world around us while scrolling through our phones, tablets, and laptops. But if you want to take control over your day, you may want to put electronic devices away for at least an hour.
You might feel like you won’t accomplish anything without your gadgets, but this isn’t true. If you really think about it, there are many other activities you could do than just checking social media every five minutes. Putting down your gadgets and taking time to be present in the here and now can give you more energy throughout the day. And who knows? Maybe you will even discover new hobbies.
4. Have You Moved Your Body Lately?
Staying active doesn’t mean that you have to turn into a complete gym rat. It can simply mean taking a few minutes out of your day to go for a walk. In some cases, it can be as simple as taking the stairs rather than the elevator. Having a few minutes of physical activity every single day helps keep your body in good shape, improve your mood, and even calm your skin.
5. Are You Being Mindful of What You Eat?
For others, self-care means being mindful of what you consume. Eating junk foods and processed meals can cause serious damage to your body. You wouldn’t want to end up looking older than you already are because of poor eating habits. Instead, opt for fresh fruits and vegetables whenever you can. Not only does this look great, but it keeps you feeling healthier too.
6. Are You Practicing Gratitude?
Practicing gratitude can be a small step in the right direction of self-care. When you wake up in the morning, make it a habit to list down some of the things you are grateful for in your life. Listing down as little as three things can help change your perspective about life and how good or bad certain situations may seem at that moment.
In addition, saying a few positive affirmations throughout the day will also help improve your mood and outlook on life. Saying something like “I am beautiful just the way I am today!” is an example of a simple affirmation. These simple acts can help improve your mood, which is very important for health and wellness.
7. Are You Willing to Go the Extra Mile?
There are a lot of ways you can go the extra mile for yourself. One of the ways to do this is by going to therapy. While going to therapy may have a stigma attached to it, it’s a great way to learn more about yourself and discover what parts of your life can be improved. Talking to a licensed therapist can help you overcome certain issues that might otherwise remain unresolved.
Self-love can also mean changing your outlook so that you can become a better person for the people around you. Many people find that talk therapy helps them achieve this goal; and talking to a professional counselor can provide guidance and support while teaching you how to deal with everyday stresses.
