POST-LASER SKINCARE & TREATMENT TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
POST LASER SKINCARE ROUTINE
How to care for your skin for 7 days after a laser/resurfacing treatment
Every year I like to do something professional to keep my skin in top shape. This year, I just had a minor laser procedure that essentially did two things:
Create sub-dermal collagen boosting
Light resurfacing of the skin
For the last few days I've been peeling and flaking - nothing severe, but it left me very dry and slowly shedding the old layer.
The new skin feels and look so smooth and bright!
I've had to be patient (no retinols, no exfoliators, no super treatments)
I've followed this simple protocol to gently and successfully get through this without interrupting the process:
DAY ONE & TWO:
This is when your skin is the most sensitive and needs healing and protection.
USE:
Light cleansing (cream-based), NeoGenesis Recovery, NeoGenesis moisturizer or Barrier cream(night)
Moisturizing sunscreen (day)
DAY THREE & FOUR:
This is when you need to baby your skin, keep it protected and very moisturized. I like to use the Barrier Renewal Cream (NeoGenesis) because it provides a unique moisture and protection during this phase. It is almost like a “cream-serum” in that it’s very lightweight, but deeply hydrated and protective.
USE:
Light cleansing, NeoGenesis Barrier Cream (night)
Moisturizing sunscreen + Barrier cream (day)
DAY FIVE:
The same as DAY FOUR, but this is when I introduce the MY DERMATICIAN sonic cleansing tool (used on the lowest setting) to lightly slough away the peeling skin. It will only work with the surface skin and not go deeper like other exfoliants (enzyme and acid-based peels like lactic, glycolic, etc).
USE:
Cleansing/use the Dermatician tool, NeoGenesis Barrier Cream (night)
Moisturizing sunscreen + Barrier cream (day)
DAY SIX:
You can introduce a very mild “active” this point. Either continue with your NeoGenesis/healing-recovery serums or use a light peptide.
USE:
Cleansing/use the Dermatician tool, CICA PEPTA cream, moisturizer
Moisturizing sunscreen + Barrier cream (day)
DAY SEVEN
This is when I have just tiny remnants of skin to remove
Now you can lightly “peel” your skin to get every last bit of old cells removed. It’s now safe to use something very mild (no deep acids, no microdermabrasions, etc.)
USE:
NeoGenesis Enzyme Cream Mask, NeoGenesis Booster, Barrier Cream
Moisturizing sunscreen + Barrier cream (day)
GENTLE EXFOLIATORS
Use only very gentle exfoliators after the 7-day mark:
MY DERMATICIAN Sonic Cleansing Tool
NeoGenesis Enzyme Cream Mask
Goat Milk Peel
OTHER ITEMS I USED:
-MY DERMATICIAN - this sonic cleansing tool helps to gently break up and slough sway peeling skin
NEOGENESIS: All of these skincare items are ideal after a treatment and I’m really glad I had them.
NeoGenesis Booster
NeoGenesis Cleaner
-Sun protection daily - I used either the Sculplla Sun Cushion or the Sun Protection Mild SPF 50
EYES: I continued to use my Sculplla Eye Cream after the third day
After a laser:
Avoid all retinols and exfoliators!
It's tempting to want to "hurry along" the process, but don't.
Be patient, keep moisturized (lots of sunscreen/avoid sun exposure during the day).
MIST OFTEN! You will find a light moisturizing (non-active) mist like a Rosewater mist or the NeoGenesis Moisturizing Mist an essential item! Lasered skin feels tight and dry; these mists really help you feel hydrated all day!
Once you hit the full 7-day mark, it is generally OK to use a very gently exfoliaant (either the NeoGenesis Enzyme cream peel or the goat milk peel are perfect). Then use a good barrier cream.
WHY HAVE A LASER TREATMENT EVERY YEAR?
Doing a deeper (professional) treatment like this is great yearly or every 6 months. It's gentle (no one can really tell - no lobster-red long recovery) and it really helps remove that top layer so your skin glows - and more readily accepts your wonderful skincare products!
