NIACINIMIDE IN SKIN CARE

What is NIACINIMIDE? What does it do for the skin?

What is Niacinamide?

Popular niacinamide is being added to more skincare lines lately.

Why? What is niacinamide?

Niacinimide is derived from niacin, which is also known as vitamin B3. Niacin is also nicotinic acid, which is found in our body and in many foods animal food products.

You can also look for nicotinic acid in labels. Niacinimide is derived from this. The terms “nicotinic acid” and “niacinamide” are often used interchangeably although they offer different benefits. Usually in skin care products, niacinamide is the chosen version.

Niacinamide is an antioxidant and antiaging vitamin that promotes healthy-looking skin and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

It is water soluble and fairly easy to use, however as it should remain at a relatively neutral pH, it should not be combined with acids like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), glycolics, lactic, malic, etc.

The Benefits of Niacinamide in Skin Care

-Hydrating

-Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

-Helps to reduce excess oil and oiliness

-Overall balances the skin

Additionally, Niacinimide has these benefits:

  • Creates an overall healthy look of the skin – great in urban or polluted environments to combat external stressors on the skin

  • Reduces the appearance of pores

  • Increases hydration – If you have dry skin, you can layer this type of product under other moisturizers for an even stronger boost in hydration levels.

  • Balancing and brightening – Helps to brighten and overall create a balance in the skin (not too oily; not too dry)

  • Soothes skin
