7 Ideas for Healthy Living During Business Travel

7 Ideas for Healthy Living During Business Trips

TRAVELLING CAN BE STRESSFUL!

Whether for business or personal travel, trips and the disruption can be a little hard on the body, mind, sleep and skin!

Here are a few easy to implement tips to help keep the stress down and your health up while travelling.

According to research, SalesTrip explains that expenditures for business travel in the U.S. are expected to reach $1.7 trillion. This figure may reinforce the idea that traveling professionals live a life of luxury filled with five-star hotels and meetings at exclusive eateries. The reality, though, is that many people who travel for business struggle to maintain healthy habits when they’re on a trip.

  • STAY HEALTHY AND FIT

  • DON”T LOSE CONTROL OVER YOUR SCHEDULE TO STAY ON TRACK

  • SLEEP WELL and RELAX

  • STAY LOOKING FRESH AND MAINTAIN A GLOW

1. Create a Meal Plan for the Trip

Maintaining a nutritious diet is one of the most common challenges that traveling professionals must deal with. Indeed, when you have limited resources for cooking and an endless stream of fast food temptations, a poor diet may seem like the default. You can avoid this by creating a meal plan prior to your trip, and if necessary, packing a bag with ice packs to carry along healthy food.

My Tip: I love to pack some nuts and pretzels for a “salt fix” but also a baggie of cold cut celery and carrots. Add an ice cube or two to keep it cold and wet. These are a wonderful way to get a crunchy snack and stay hydrated, as the veggies offer a nice cool hydration! Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper to the bag if you like for a little more flavor.

2. Set Specific Fitness Goals

The only thing more difficult than eating healthy while on the road is finding time to exercise while on the road. Many hotels have addressed this problem, though, by providing on-site exercise amenities. Enjoy your hotel’s gym or enjoy the benefits of walking to your meetings. And if those options aren’t available, take the stairs or wander around a local park between meetings to get your heart rate up.

My Tip: Get on Youtube and find a quick and easy workout you can do it your room. there are many that offer easy (various levels) of workout without needing any equipment, no matter what you love to do (yoga, Pilates, cardio, cardio-walk), etc.

3. Proactively Protect Your Time

Travel involves an infinite number of variables, and all of these uncertainties can pose a threat to your daily routine. In order to ensure that you don’t lose control over your schedule, you must be proactive about protecting your time. Be careful what commitments you agree to, and don’t work to the point that you experience exhaustion.

4. Eliminate Sleep Interruptions

Insomnia is one of the most common causes of an interrupted schedule. It’s not always easy to get a good night’s rest in the unfamiliar surroundings of a hotel, but you’ll have a much better shot if you eliminate interruptions. Unless your job requires you to be on call, for example, you should turn off your phone 30 minutes before bed. This will help your body produce the melatonin it needs to get to sleep.

5. Develop a Relaxation Routine

Turning off your phone may help, but for most traveling professionals, it isn’t a magical ticket to sleep. You may also benefit from developing a relaxation routine that you can use before bedtime — or any time you’re feeling stressed or tired. You can easily practice relaxing activities such as meditation, deep breathing, and aromatherapy while on the road.

6. Implement Simple Self-Care & STAY LOOKING FRESH

Relaxation should also be a core component of your self-care routine. Self-care can benefit your health by increasing your confidence, boosting your productivity, and generally making you happier.

MY BEST TIPS: Take along a couple of pre-packaged facial masks and even a small battery-powered skincare device, like the GALVANIA for eyes, to help your skin maintain a fresh dewey glow and keep your eyes from looking puffy in the morning. This is so helpful after a night of nachos and margaritas or a less-than-optimal night of sleep in a hotel!

7. Eliminate Any Encroaching Clutter

Traveling may make you more likely to succumb to clutter. Keeping your space clean and organized is a challenge when you’re constantly on the road, in a meeting, or trying to sleep. Reducing your clutter is a vital part of protecting your wellbeing, though — when it starts to build up, it can quickly compromise your mental health. Try using a scanner app on your smartphone and free PDF tools to digitize paper clutter that accumulates while you travel. You can try this listing to merge together related files and store them in the cloud for easy access.

Discover How To Live Well While Traveling

Despite the many challenges that a traveling professional may face, there are also many ways to establish health-conscious habits. Find ways to fit physical activity into your daily routines, and be cautious of what you eat while you’re away. And take time for yourself so that you can decompress and enjoy wherever you have found yourself geographically. Investing in your mental and physical health will help you retain your energy, avoid burnout, and meet the daily demands of your job.
